The Department of Environmental Affairs, in partnership with the Gauteng Provincial Government, would like to invite you to a national stakeholder consultation workshop to engage the Draft Climate Change Bill.
The overarching premise for the Climate Change Bill is South Africa’s particular vulnerability to the impacts of climate change, the effects of which are already being experienced. Indications are that even with the implementation of appropriate mitigation and adaptation measures these impacts will increasingly be experienced across a number of sectors including water resources; agriculture and food production; forestry and fisheries; human health; energy generation; industry; human settlements and migration; disaster management; biodiversity and terrestrial ecosystems. The Bill is further inspired by South Africa´s contribution to global GHG emissions and the country’s commitment to the Paris Agreement.
The Gauteng/ National Provincial Stakeholder Consultation Workshop is scheduled as follows:
Date: Monday, 16 July 2018 Time: 09h00 – 15h00
Venue: The Birchwood Hotel, Boksburg
Your participation in this workshop will be of great importance and will assist the department to gather technical input in refining the draft bill.
